I have been working on a track for my Berklee Melody class and decided to pull out some big guns this weekend. Looking for feedback on the guitar tone.  Take a listen and let me know what you think of the guitar tone.

Jack Napalm Guitar Track Test

This was recorded in Cubase using my XXX and a Shure SM57.  I used my Custom Shop Charvel for each guitar track.  One side is the bridge pickup and the other side is the neck.  The guitar is tuned to Drop C#.  Lately I have been working on double tracking guitars and I am getting better at it.  There are still a few timing issues but progress is being made.

Here is a revised track. I have added a bass line, melody line and played with the drums. I am not very good at drum fills but these should work for the moment.

Hhmm.. Strange. The sound is very clear but the guitar tracks do not sound like if you had recorded them with a shure sm 57. I miss the slight dynamic changes in the sound that one usually hears while listening to a real amp.
It sounds more like an amp simulation with impulse responses of real amps. You can achieve similar results with Nick Crow 8505 for example. Perhaps you should increase the master volume of your amp, and you definitely should use more mics per each take because the recorded sound is to thin. For this I recomment a sennheiser MD 421 and a good condenser mic (audiotechnica 4030 for example) together with your sm 57.But be careful about the phase problems :-)

Thanks for tips. It was an SM57. I have some other mics, dynamic and condenser, that I can use and may try more next time. I don't have an MD421, at least not yet. smilies/grin.gif

I'll be doing this again soon, hopefully with better results.
